My friend has the belt.exe virus on her computer. Nortons couldn't fix it. So she deleted belt.exe. However, I'm not entirely sure that it works like that. So I ran Ad-Aware & Spybot S&D. And I read the pertinent posts on in this forum. But would anyone mind taking a look at the resulting HT log? Thanks much!

This is a DLL to enable multiple display monitors on a single computer. It can be a cause of numerous problems on some computers

If you don't use multiple displays I would fix that line.

dlee: Where did your friend FIND Belt.exe?
I've been reading posts about & trying to find it so I CAN delete it. My computer & Simply Super Trojan Remover both say it doesn't exist, but Norton says it does but won't quarantine OR delete it. HELP!

You must de activate system restore b4 doing this: 1.Delete all references to "Belt" in the system registry. 2.Do a search for Files and folders, MAKING SURE that "show hidden files" is selected.Search for "Belt." You will find a cab file(zipped) and also "Belt.exe" and maybe an ini or readme file. Delete them all, don't try and read them.3. Reboot and do a full system scan using the latest signatures.4.When the system is clean, re-activate system restore.

SmartRob's 4 step system worked for me. I'm rid of "Belt.exe" virus. If a computer rookie like me can do it, any of you can.

My sister (windows xp) has the belt trojan as well...I have tried many resolutions and am going to try your 4 step system as well Smartrob but I am unclear on something...when you say remove from registry entries...do I have to select each folder individually to look for the belt or is there a way to scan the registry for these entries...
as my name suggests...I am a newbie and sometimes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. LOL

I took Rob's route as well (wish I would've come here first...took me a while to figure that one out = not that bright I suppose). Here's the deal tho, boys and girls; Belt runs or sends you too into a world of hurt, causing further DLs to take place. Have a look (run) MSConfig to identify further instances of attack from other Viruses. Keep a wary eye out for ISTSVC (one of the more insidious). You will probably have to remove them the same as Belt (mostly - might get one or two outta' spybot and adaware). ISTSVC must be isolated before it can be deleted (may need to drop it in a quarantine file and kill off the other progs first). Of course, maybe I'm the only one that got zinged here, but I doubt it! i did also the 4 steps but i'm not sure which programm is system restore...that's the only thing that i didn't do because i'm not sure what that means. if any of you can help me with that, that would be great. (by the way i don't talk that much english so if there's a mistake sorry!!! ;))

Ok, firstly, to find things in registry go to Start>Run then Type "Regedit" without the "". This will open up a program, to search go to Edit, Find and type in Belt (don't change any of the tick boxes). When it finds something, use common sense to see if it is malicious or not. (I had one which was from a program called CosmicBelt which was clearly safe.). If it is, right click then delete. (BE CAREFUL, DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT) If not, press F3 to carry on searching.

System Restore - To deactivate system restore in Windows XP: Right click on My Computer, click the "System Restore" tab then make sure "Turn off system restore in all drives" is ticked. In other versions of Windows I think it is a similar method but with slightly different words.
