Comment: Norton is picking up a downloader.mscache virus which it cannot delete. Does anyone know what this is or how to deal with it? Thanks!!

Reply: (edit)Did you have any luck? You can empty your temp folder C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Temp, and see if that helps. Or post another log, I will do what I can.

Reply: (edit)I recieved this same virus when I opened up a subprofile on AIM trying to find out who a name was that I did not know, it popped up as a download window and like an idiot(No offence to anyone else) I opened it and it started its course...I spent a good half hour just x-ing out of all it's download attempts and Norton wasn't getting far so I tried my back-up, adaware. You can download this at: www.ad-aware.com I have been satisfied with this in the past, and I will know pretty soon whether it really worked for THIS particular virus, but I hope this helps!

Reply: (edit)I followed blender's suggested link (Response Number 2)and was abled to fixed that. basically three steps: 1. turn off ur system restore option temporarily. 2. restart window in safe mode without network & run norton antivirus program & then u could delete infected files 3. start window in a normal mode & turn on ur system restore option. Happy holidays

Reply: (edit)I have found this virus also on my computer. I, too, have tried the Symantic/Norton recommendation for removal of the virus with no luck. It will not delete no matter what I do. Can anyone tell me step by step what I need to do to remove this virus (downloader mscache). The other forums I went to that are recommended here don't appear to be very helpful to me, or at least I don't understand how to relate then to this problem.
