I have had a virus since June 30th. I have tried removing it and quarantining it countless times in countless ways. I have tried it manually, no luck because the program was in use. I've used Hijackthis, Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, Spyware Doctor (possibly), Symantec, and MoveOnBoot. None of these have worked.

Symantec Antivirus Notification displays this message of a thousand times during the course of one hour!!:
Scan type: Realtime Protection Scan
Event: Virus Found!
Virus name: Downloader
File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\iifcdeb.dll
Location: C:\WINDOWS\system32
Computer: BRANDON
User: SYSTEM
Action taken: Clean failed : Quarantine failed : Access denied
Date found: Wednesday, August 23, 2006 4:24:46 PM

Please help me!!! Brandon

Symantec and Norton are notorious for that behavior.
Have you tried updated stinger scans? Also, you may want to D/L avast, then disable norton and let Avast do a bootscan on reboot. I've done that many times and had great results. Just get Avast to move the infections to the chest...don't use any other options.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I have an update ... As I was trying to turn on my computer, it came up with a blue screen that says it automatically shut down to prevent damage. -- UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME -- it says to boot in safe mode and fix it by a list of steps.

But, I CAN'T BOOT IN SAFE MODE because of the same message.

Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x000000ED (0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000

I don't know what to do and I can't afford not to have it because of school.

What should I do?

This is getting more and more common, you will need a xp cd so if you don't have one you will need to borrow one or download the 6 disk bootdisk as mentioned in the following link. http://www.techtips4u.com/kb/sw/SW00014.htm

You may be able to recover the disk less dramatically using GRC's Spinrite program which beats the pants off MS's Scandisk.

D/L Spinrite here: www.GRC.com

BTW I would also recommend Avast! over Symantec & McAfee. The Boottime scan facility it gives is very effective.

Good luck
