I have a Dell Inspiron with Windows XP. And I'm pretty sure I have a virus. These are the symptoms:

1. I have Norton Symantec Virus scan. When I have tried to run it, it came up with an error. Now it is not even on my computer anymore. Very strange.
2. Adaware doesn't fine any trojans or malware on my computer. It found a few cookies, which I had cleaned.
3. My email (hotmail and school emails) does not work. I get an error everytime I try to login.
4. Facebook does not work. I try to login and get an error. This also happens with some other sites.
5. I cannot access citrix, which is a server for my school.
I have zonealarm, which is a firewall. It has a few programs blocked which I do not recognize such as xrun.exe, engine.exe, A~nsisu_.exe, jusched.exe, qmpsetup_win_ie_03070901.exe

I am at loss for what to do, if anyone knows the answer to how to get my computer back up and running, I would love you forever. My email is intensejourney at hotmail.com

download and install
spybot serach & destroy 1.5 (NEW)
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/...

AVG Free
http://free.grisoft.com/

AVG Anti spyware
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/29116/u...

AVG Anti rootkit

Lavasoft adaware 2007 free

CW Shredder standalone

ATF Cleaner

run the updates for all of these programs, then go into safe mode and run them one by one not all at the same time. If you have another Anti virus tool then remove that before installing AVG free.

Also go to Start >> Run type: msconfig
look at all the enterys under the STARTUP tab and carefully deselect those you believe are Malicious, if you are unsure type them on here and we can instruct weather to remove or not.

do this and then come back with results.
