Just yesterday i had a really bad encounter with the most destructive virus i ever saw.It was an exe and strangly kaspersky didn't detect it.After i ran it it gave some weird errors(no disk in drive) and then my computer reset and BAM! Disk boot failure. So I used my linux cd to try to get to the bottom of it but again i could't even touch my hard disk in linux. And then i used the xp setup disk and i was annoyed to see that my partitions were gone and alll i had was unformatted space. So i had to format everything and reinstalled windows.
Did any of you encountered this type of virus before? Is it the CIH virus?

... XP? hmmm
CIH virus info from symantec.com
... did you have an antivirus installed +updated?
"...was annoyed to see that my partitions were gone..."
"...I used my linux cd to try to get to the bottom of it but again i could't..."
"...I had to format everything and reinstalled windows..."
... linux cd?
... I sure would like to have a link to that virus.
... I have had Blue Screen Of Death (bsod)
causing a reboot and loss of disc access before; but there should be some sort of error message ie "Missing System Disk" blah blah... did you try a partition recovery disc?
... I've always managed to recover lost partitions before.
... without the virus one can only guess!
...Ya!
Grrrr
wat do I know?
... got brain freeze

I had kaspersky latest update installed.I didn't get a blue screen of death. The error i got was something like when windows tries to read a cd and you pull it out and the error message with the options try again cancel or continue pops out.And i don't have a partition recovery disk.
