Windows XP FW isn't the best one, according to this recent thread. For that extra layer of protection, consider getting yourself a router.

As an FYI, a router with its built-in hardware firewall known as NAT (Network Address Translation) or DMZ (DeMilitarized Zone, as with Linksys line of routers) hides your private IP from the world. This in conjunction with a software FW is guaranteed to be your best protection.
Hope this helps.

If you are not behind a router now....at least install ZoneAlarm (get it at download.com). Make sure to install the FREE (basic) version.
This is very, VERY important if you now have a full time connection going directly to your PC.

FYI NAT will hide your computer from the outside world, only the router will seem to exist. In a DMZ each of your computers public IP is visible and a firewall is very much needed.
