One software firewall that monitor both inbound and outbound traffic is enough. Using two firewalls on the same connection could cause issues with connectivity to the Internet or other unexpected behavior. Got a router? If not, get one. The router will provide you with extra protection (hardware firewall).

Yeah, I'd definitely recommend finding one good firewall and sticking to it rather than grabbing several, installing them all in tandem and hoping that they have some kind of team effect. They won't help each other. They'll probably only manage to get in the way. There are many posts around here from people who are suffering from problems relating to collisions between different anti-virus suites and the line not being able to function as well with other firewalls in the way.
