If my computer connects to a computer(server) which connects directly to the internet, do I still need a firewall? Cuz if people ping me, they would be pinging the server instead of my computer rite?

Even if you are on a network or server that has a firewall itself, it is still good to have a personal firewall. A personal firewall not only protects you from intrusions from the outside, but stops your computer from responding back to the internet with info about your system.
But do you know if the server you connect to the internet through really has protection? You can still get trojans and spyware which broadcast back to the internet with information about your computer. IMO a firewall is essential! My DSL router has a firewall but only protects from incoming threats. It does nothing to prevent outgoing stuff.

You only need a firewall if you have reason that you need one.

Ummm... Do i need a windshield on my car? Remember this is the information highway... just as there are idiots on the road (& suicidal birds & animals). There are hackers & jokers out here... You should use a firewall for a little xtra protection while surfing. Read some of these posts & dont be afraid to "poll" for recommendations of firewalls & Antivirus software... but be warned: there WILL be arguments as prefrences vary greatly in these areas, kinda like the Ford or Chevy?... BTW Chevy Rulez!
