OK, my subscription is due for my Norton A/V & Firewall but with SP2 I no longer need a firewall(?) and I think I'll save myself some money by installing free AVG.
Any one out there have problems with that solution?

I just removed Norton, replaced with AVG.

Seems to be straight forward and user friendly.

Download Zone Alarm (free) as your firewall and save all around.

Or you could use Avast! 4 home edition

Sygate Personal Firewall which are also real good and FREE

How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you're on

It also depends on which Norton. I have had much success with Norton 2003 but have found Norton 2005 to be a disaster and am now running AVG.

You will ALWAYS NEED A FIREWALL. WinDoze XP SP2 leaves a number of gaping vulnerabilities in your machine and they're finding more every day. The XP firewall works fairly well (I prefer ZoneAlarm for the configuration options) so keep using it.

Just to add that some folk have had trouble with email when using AVG. Shout back if you run into it. AVAST Anti-Virus is supposed to be good too (free version available).

Norton is too bloated and slows down everything on most systems. For a free av I would go for AVG or AVAST, both are excellent. For a free firewall (and yes you NEED a firewall coz XP firewall SUX, even if you have sp2) checke out either zone alarm or sygate personal firewall.

If you're willing to pay, I would suggest Kaspersky Antivirus (kav). Its excellent. Good Luck!
