Recently I got a message when I turned on my computer. It said something like "I'm tired of standing to the side. Maybe you should report me if you don't know who I am." Kinda got a little scared there! Then I did a virus scan with AntiVir and it said I had many files infected with something like Worm/Kindal and some other Trojan. I deleted all of them. Also, when I'm surfing the web on IE, my window closes. It closes at the same websites too, such as just when I typed in my username and password for yahoo it closes everytime. I AM FRUSTRATED!! Oh, and I just happened to right click on the My Computer icon's properties and on the "Registered to:" line it says "Not you, no longer." Was I hacked into?? Can the person see what I'm typing right now?? I've tried AntiVir, PestPatrol, and AdAware but my computer seems to be clean. also tried McAfee Virus Scan but it kept freezing up. Please help!!

Attempts to spread itself through the KaZaA, Overnet, LimeWire, and Morpheus file-sharing networks.

One way to keep a worm alive, other than
poking holes in the lid.

dun get frus so easyly... i suggest u to scan ur system with the latest virus defination available .. change all ur passwords(email, college login, credit card number, windows password, etc) and use the program called (registry mechanics)to fix all ur registry problems that caused by the trojan or worm early..if problems persist, format ur hardisk and reinstalling ur OS.

PS:.. Formating And Reinstalling is the best way u can do to even the most extreme and dangerous virus in the world..

any question?? email me

It's not obvious at all - at least, not to anyone who'd actually read the Symantec writeup.

It's a worm - the "Not you, no longer." is a simple registry trick:

Changes the value of "RegisteredOwner" in the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

to:

"RegisteredOwner" = "Not You, no longer"

.. but thanks for your hacking expertise

Thanks for the suggestions. A while ago my internet wouldn't work. I used WinsockXP Fix and it fixed something in my regedit.

Also, thanks Michael I downloaded the Registry Mechanic program and it fixed my 2000 registry problems.

And jboy too, I changed "Not you, no longer" to myself.

My IE still closes at the same certain websites I go to though. I might take your advice Michael and format my hard disk. If anyone knows how I can fix this problem with IE please tell.

Hopefully the worm is gone, and the bogus registry entry was all that remained.

You might consider further examining the registry as outlined in the Symantec response.

As for IE closing at certain sites, possibly there are entries in your HOSTS file? Not sure if PestPatrol would check for that - HiJackThis! would, and Spybot too, I think.
