hello i have bt broadband and i think there is some sort of a dialer hacking into it or something. i know this because whenever i connect with my own line number and after i while i check again and this number comes up: 004382091190693 i have no idea how it does this looks like a dialer im worried im getting charged for this ive tried spybot zone alarm does nothing. Any help please?

As far as I am aware you should not have a problem with dialers on a broadband inter connection, but to put your mind at rest phone BT and explain what is happening and get them to check the number.

If it is by some chance a rough dialler you have installed, it cannot do anything unless you have an analogue modem installed.
Broadband modems work nothing like analogue modems and do not dial the same as analogue modems do.
Just out of curiosity I tried calling the number on Skye and got a Number unobtainable tone.

Whoops, tried the number on my BT phone and there is a modem on the other end. I'll let you know to-morrow how much it cost for three seconds.

i also dialled using the dialer no. just to check, and it worked. but ive been reassured that once you have already dialled with your own number it cannot intercept and dial a different one without disconnecting first. is this right? because after dialling and connecting to broadband i checked and the no. had switched back to the one i was talking about, 004382091190693. So, im pretty confused now to be honest, but ill have to wait and see what happens. any replies would be greatly appreciated.

>> but ive been reassured that once you have already dialled with your own number it cannot intercept and dial a different <<
That is just how these rouge diallers work. First they send a code to your modem to silence the speaker. +++ to take the modem of line then followed by ATX0 if my memory serves me. Then hangs up the modem with ATH. Then ATD and the different number and before you know it you are connected to a premium rate number.
The only way you will notice is if you just happen to be looking at the modem when it does it and see the lights flashing.
However, all this is academic if you have broadband. You don't dial anything with broadband, it is a permanent connection. Unless you have an analogue modem connected, the dialler cannot do anything.
>> because after dialling and connecting to broadband <<
That sentence doesn't make sense. If you are dialling a number to connect to the Internet, you are not using broadband. What is the number you normally dial?
