(This was originally in the 9x forum, I
have removed it from that forum and placed
it here instead).
Recently, my computer became infected with
virus(es). I first noticed the problem when
Windows 98SE stopped displaying the speaker
icon on the taskbar. When I took a look at
Device Manager to see what was going on, I
found that about a third of the devices
were scrambled in someway.

My anti-virus software identified the files
pup.exe, and do.exe as being infected. I
was wondering if these two files are part
of the same virus, or are they two
completely independent viruses. Also, what
is it that these stupid things are supposed
to do with your machine? I have since
restored my C drive from a backup image.

The name of the file tells us nothing as the name is often changed to catch the unwary. Try posting a "HiJack This" log, then we could have found the real name of the virus. Since it is already gone, all i can say is get Norton AV, it will prevent u from ever getting another virus.
