Desktop disappeared & files hidden

September 7, 2011 at 01:57:38
Specs: Windows Vista
In the few days between my Nortons running out & getting chance to renew it, it looks like I have picked up a virus. After shutting down my laptop, it has now strated up again with no desktop and everything black. I can get to explorer via the start menu and renewed my Nortons. This found a Trojan.Gen2 (i think it was) and removed it, but the problem still exists.
I tried to do a system restore for the only date shown for a few days previous but this failed to run fully.

My files under C drive users are also hidden. I can go into the Control Panel and unhide them, but a few minutes later the virus does something and hides them again.

Any advice on what I can do to resolve this.

Open the run command | Type cmd | click ok

You should now be in a command prompt, type the following (each new line is an implicit "Enter" keystroke):

cd \
attrib -h * /s /d

Allow this to run through, you should find your files and directories are now visible.
