hello
i recently downloaded what was meant to be a dreamcast emulator (dreamcast emulator.exe) off KaZaA, which, when i ran it, placed a virus onto my system, i ran norton anti virus, which managed to quaruntine 9 files, these are:
bcptdw.exe
crcyym.exe (in 2 different places)
cwcprddd.exe
dx.exe
hpkvihv.exe (2 copies of this as well)
all of these files were placed in C:/windows/System, apart from dx.exe. which was placed in c:/windows/start menu/programs/startupas i say norton anti virus has quaruntined all of these files, but unfortunatly my virus is not gone
this is what happens, every time i boot up my computer, it runs the MS-dos prompt, which dosnt seem to do anythiong, and when i try to close it (wither clicking on the X or ctrl-alt-delete)the name on the windows top bar simple changes to "closing - ms-dos prompt", then about 10 seconds later it goes away, a few seconds after this another window that looks like a DOS window pops up and goes away again very quickly, then a message appears teeling me about a file named moo.reg that cannot be added to the registry because of some reason or another, then everything goes back to normal, unfortunatly it puts about 150 exe files into my KaZaA shared folder, all of which are different versions (i think) of the file i orgionally downloaded (they are all the same size) but all with different names, i delete them all, but then next time my computer starts up it happens again.
i deleted any information about my origional file i downloaded from the registry, but unfortunatly it still goes on
please can someone help me, its getting quite annoying nowi am running:
pentium III 800
128 Mb Ram
NVidia geforce 2 mx 200 32 mb
sound blaster audigy 5.1
30 Gb hard drive
56X CD-Rom
cable modem
windows MEthankyou
Scott
p.s i also have another problem, sometimes my computer seems to restart itself for no reason, although its strange, because it will do it about 5 times in a row, then not do it again for a month or so, then start doing it again, can anyone help me with this aswell?
thanx
Scott

My computer also used to restart itself when the mood arised. It's stopped now. I think it was due to cooling fans or fans of some sort, so I'd check them out if I were you...

k thanx 2 everyone who helped me
managed to get it sorted out, sum little bits r left over but ill clear them up over time
still would like to hear from anyone who has a better solution as to why my computer likes to randomly restart itself
thanx again to all those who helpedScott

I had a problem with my computer randomly restarting, the fan not working properly causing it to overheat,
replaced the fan & it never did it again.

I have heard of a number of system with the nVida cards doing resets, but normally its with Athlon processors, not Intel. If they get a little too hot, they cause problems. Make sure the exhust fan on the system is not blocked and there is good air flow out of the power supply.
Using the current drivers from nVIDIA has solved some of these problems. Backing off from AGP mode 4x has helped others.
Memory problems can also cause random reboots, so a good long memory test with DocMemory_v2.0 and/or
MemTest86 installed to diskettes and booted to run long over night memory tests will check your memory out.New power supplies sometimes fix the problem. As does UPS units if you line power is bad or you have bad grounding through too many extension cord connectors.
