What is up with CWS. None of the links to the program work, and now that I finally found a link, I can't update the damn thing.

Are they getting DDosed over there or something?

I tried several download sites--none of them were responsive. The developer of CWShredder recently announced he no longer plans to continue working on the utility. Since it's his code, he might have pulled it off the Net.

It's always humid here, but the great beaches gorgeous gals are a fair trade-off. Gonna hit the surf later today. 8-)

O.k thanks for the info guys. Too bad he couldn't keep it up, but I understand.

Well s---, that does it. There is a new variant that hit my work computer. I did a google search, clicked on one of the resluts of the search and WHAMMO! Evidently I have a variant of the coolwebsearchtrojan (CWS.smartsearch.2). I have removed a file named CWS.Jksearch, but of course it comes back. Ad-aware doesn't find it. Since I am on a work computer I don't have admin rights and therefore can't install spybot. Stinger doesn't find it, neither does a trend micro scan. The Mcafee antivirus VirusScan 7.1 show that I got infected, but it does not pick up the trojan when I do a scan.

I am waiting on our tech support people to call me and give me admin rights, or to remote in and try to fix it themselves. This sux, but I am so glad that it isn't MY computer. SO far the trojan hasn't done much, that I know of, as no homepage changes or popups. I'm about to do a netstat and see if someone is out there listening.

After that, I am going to unplug every computer I own because this is getting stupid. I have a life outside of computer security, at least I used too, and I'm about to give up like the developer of CWS and start playing with model cars or something.

Yep, got the latest verison of CWS, no luck. It tells me that the variant is trying to shut down CWS so it starts with an ambigious string of text in the title bar so it isn't prevented from running (pretty nifty), however, it doesn't kill the thing.

Gonna have post a HJT log somewhere looks like. Oh the joys of computing.

Whoever wrote this needs to be shot!

wannaBtech,

Other sites where you can post HJT is contained in this link

Where can we post Hijack This Logs?

This one also tells you what you need to do before posting a HJT at the aforementioned sites.
