CW Shredder does not get installed. I downloaded the version 2.0 and on right-clicking OPEN it opens an agreement. On clicking "I AGREE" it places a short on the desk top. When you click open the SHORTCUT, the windows start searching for cwshredder.exe.
2. Anyone else having this problem??
2. What is the way out??

Naarrr. CWShredder 2.0 works independantly Ok.

If you look at Intermutes site, it just says that if you purchase SpySubtract, or take the free trial download, then CWS is now incorporated into SpySubtract as well.

You can still get CWShredder 2.0 independantly from Abnormals original Intermute link and Majorgeeks. I'm sat here looking at it and using it.

CWShredder 2.0 does put a shortcut on the desktop and the shortcut works. But it also installs an Intermute folder into your program files with CWShredder.exe and IMreport.exe in it.

Blatant advertising and branding exercise by Intermute for SpySubtract and to get Intermutes name banded about on your puter.

SpywareInfo - CWShredder(new)V.2.0 Concurs with the folder install too.

Check your download and start again if you find it doesn't work.

Be intersting to see just how long CWS remains freely available though, with no strings attached.

There is some "debate" on other forums, I've noticed, that suggest this version 2.0 might not be quite legitimate.

Only time will tell.

I've took it off and re-installed a few times and ...same results.

I've deleted the Intermute folder and it went without problem and it didn't leave any other trace as far as I can tell either. Will have a really thorough comb in a bit.

Wait and see I guess.

"We are proud to offer CWShredder as a free
download, and we plan to integrate its powerful functionality into SpySubtract
PRO to give our customers the most robust protection available against
invasive forms of software."

InterMute will continue to offer CWShredder for free, as Mr. Bellekom has
done in the past.

See this URL for a few doubts (about one third down the page):

SEE DOUBTS

I too run a hosts file and it found and fixed CWS.HiddenDll

Suddenly I have adverts arriving. I intend to do a compare of hosts but suspect it has taken out a chunk as reported - we shall see.

IF (and only if) there is anything untoward then it worries me. Just about anything can be contained in an .exe file and I just installed it without even questioning it.

Anyone else had this HiddenDll removed?

Re my #11

Unfortunately I hadn't got an exact copy of my previous hosts file.

However I have experimented with various hosts files and thrown CWShredder at the system. I found no sign of any change to any hosts file nor did I get any further reports about CWS.HiddenDll

The sudden appearance of adverts may just have been a function of visiting different websites to usual - a coincidence.

Rightly or wrongly, on the basis of what I've tried I could find no evidence of any hokey pokey from CWShredder 2.0

Whether CWS.HiddenDll was a false postive (deliberate or otherwise) is purely a matter of conjecture. Despite my "over the top" security something could somehow have crept in and has now been properly removed by CWS.

I feel obliged to give CWShredder 2.0 a clean bill of health on the basis of my own particular experiments.
