Hi guys! In my icon tray there is a flashing image that says 'critical system errors!'. I gathered by other posts that its a virus and downloaded the necassary programs to get rid of it. These include the hijackthis, smitfraudfix, ATF-cleaner and killbox. Can anyone help please.

Also forgot to mention that according to other sites the cause of the virus may have been something called Video Object ActiveX. I have managed to delete the folders and my antivirus software (Norton) doesnt pick up any infections. Just thought that might help further.

Cheers.

Hiya Jim,

I dealt with this virus not too long ago. My Norton never even flinch either. Pissed me off! Anyway...

This is what I used to get rid of it.

AVG Free Antivirus
Adaware SE
Hijackthis
Spybot Search and Destroy

You can find those programs at MajorGeeks.com

You need to delete all temp internet files.
You will need to turn off System Restore.
The virus hides out in there.

Then boot your computer to "Safe Mode"
Run the programs I mentioned above or run the ones you already have. I'm not familiar with some of the ones you mentioned but they may just do the job for you.

Then reboot your computer to normal mode and run the scanners again.

Hope this helps

Top man!! I think its gone.

I only used the Adware SE put the viruses into quarantine and rebooted my pc. It seemed to have got rid of it. Everything seems to be running just a tiny bit slow though. Got any ideas why?

Thx.

I would also scan with SpyBot Search and Destroy. It will find things that the other scanners miss.
