Comment: My problems started with the cd burner not being recognized by the burner program. Now both cd roms have disappeared, and my task manager shows "create~1.exe" taking 98% of my cpu usage. I have run spybot, adaware, and an online version of a virus program. Still no luck. I cannot run my Nortan anti virus, because it now longer shows as being installed. I can't run it off the cd, as the cd is no longer shown as installed. A search for the create~1 on line just gave me the indication it was a virus, but nothing shows on the programs I have run to find it. I cannot tell the program to shut down in TaskMgr. Does anyone have a suggestion ? He'p me, he'p me please !

Reply: (edit)What CD burning program do you use? Maybe you could try uninstalling it and see if the helps. Can you shut down that process in the task manager? I did a google search but didn't find anything specific. This is a forum with a HijackThis log with create~1.exe in it. It appears to be for the CD burning program. The forum is in another language, so I can't tell what they said about the log. http://www.spywarefri.dk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=312

Reply: (edit)Could be CreateCD.exe or CreateCD50.exe or something else for Adaptec Easy CD Creator (or Roxio Easy CD Creator from version 5.0 onward). Could be icon for starting Easy CD Creator from the System Tray. If you have easy CD creator uninstall.

Reply: (edit)Task manager does not show everything that's running. REBOOT!!!!! IF you reboot your computer and you still have the same problem try rebooting in safe mode. Still? --- use codestuff starter to kill any running programs can't? --- use highjackthis to delete/FIX PROBLEMS no? Search for any .exe in the registry with the word creat. If it appears in a Run key - delete it. Don't forget to back it up or copy the string and location. Then reboot you should at least get some processing time back.

Reply: (edit)I found the culprit. Down in Common Files there was an Adaptec folder remaining. Deletion is so rewarding sometimes.
