I have a sneaky little bug that completely shuts down my laptop just as it nears the end of a virus scan. Even scanning from trend micro in safe mode... came back later and the darn thing was shut down... again!! I am also having a problem watching video in itunes. It keeps locking up, never did that until I started having this other issue with it shutting down at will. I have run hardware diagnostic, and it says there is nothing wrong hardware-wise... what next???

Did you try scanning your system with an anti-spyware program? Some powerful products detect parasites that regular antiviruses cannot.

Well, I tried running Ad-Aware last night. I let it just run over noight and went to bed. Got up this morning and it was shut down again. So now virus scan and antispyware are making it shut down. Any other ideas?

Does it only shut down when scanning with some scanning utility? Or would it shut down if you just left it turned on running any program that works the HD? To test, run scandisk and select the "Thorough" option. See if it shuts down then.
