I found this forum while searching for a fix to my problem. About 5 months ago there was a post on a user not able to see all of the tabs when he right clicks the desktop and then properties. I have this same problem. The post told him to go to HKEY_USERS/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/System/. Then look for a setting called NoDispBackgroundPage set to value 1 and change it to 0 or delete.
So I went here and deleted these files and checked my desktop and still corrupt. So I go back and the files have reappeared, so I set the value to 0 and then they automatically set themselves back to 1.

Any help would be GREAT!!

buckcard44, If the tabs are missing go to the link below and scroll down to line 285 right column and download the "Restore All Display Tabs" reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. It may correct the problem.

whats is your desktop canged to?

A few keywords from the background that is set may help in resolving the issue.

Is it a blue screen that says your infected by ??????.???.??? ....?

There are a few adware programs doing this these days.
I thought I had replied to this link already, but it seems my post may have been removed due to refering to another site.

buckcard44, It sounds like it may be the Smitfraud virus. Check out the removal instructions at the link below.

You have to take care of the virus/spyware first. It is embedded in your logon profile, current user and in several locations.

If you create a new user your desktop settings are back to normal (default) but that doen't take care of the cause.

You have to get rid of that virus, probably CoolWebSearch spyware.

The following link helped me, proceede as described by "Miekiemoes" in that web site. I am actually still surprised that it worked, despite Norton, Antivir, Trendmicro by themselves no such luck.

http://forums.spywareinfo.com/lofiversion/index.php/t54403.html

After that still check your registry in your current profile in:

hkey_current user: according to the procedure of Symantec's security response in Part 3 at the end. Do that in all your existing user profiles (logon)!! I would actually disconnect from the internet just to make sure you don't connect to one of those links.

see the following to reestablish the default registry entries:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/spyware.cwsaddclass.b.html

It should work
Good Luck
