Hello. My name is Eoin, I'm 16, I'm having a problem with my control panel. Its wreaking havoc on my PC. One day it just happened; I went to access "Sounds and Audio devices" in the control panel, I double click it, and instead of opening, the egg timer shows up, dissapears. It doesn't open! Nothing in the control panel will open. I did a thorough scan of my PC today and delete all threats, still there. Also, a message comes up accompanying this problem. It says:
"Windows cannot find C:\WINDOWS\system32
\rundll32.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search"

I checked that directory and rundll32.exe is not there. What should I do. Thank you very much,
Eoin

Try typing this in the Run box (with the space as shown):

sfc /scannow

Let it run through and it might well put it back.

Otherwise, if it's XP "Home Edition" SP2 I'd be happy to email my copy of rundll32.exe so let me know. Whether that's all that is wrong remains to be seen.

First of all, why not try a system restore to before the problem? That may work

If it doesn't work and you have the XP installation CD try a repair install:

or

All you will lose are your critical up-dates...good luck

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
