I have Norton Internet Security/Anti-Virus 2004. Now, just rcently I have un-installed, and re-installed it. I noticed an option within the program that enables you to bring up a warning anytime an uunused port is accessed (i think that's what the terminology was) and ever since that re-install I am getting constant warnings:

Protocol: UDP or TCP (inbound)
there is always a different remote ip address.

Can anyone tell me what this might indicate.
Thankyou

There are a lot of trojans out there and they could be trying to access your computer. If you are a cable subscriber your internet server could be pinging you to see if you have additional hardware hooked up. My server use to try and ping me several times a day but was unable to because of the firewall I had set up. Just and idea. My server ip address vary although they are of the same series numbers

ya, i have ADSL. but for the past 2 days, i have been recording the ip's to see if there are any the same. now, aside from a few that are the same, i have probably over 200 remote ip addresses and they are still coming in. so i have no idea what it could be, although i haven't though of the server.

Turn off the warning - it's normal. My Sygate log lists around 70 blocked packets on ports 80 and 139 since 2300 last night. It's Trojan/virus activity. However, if NIS has the option, you should block those ports, not just have it warn you.
