A few days ago my computer started acting up and I'm sure it's virus related. I tried running my scanner but it wouldn't scan past 2% progress (after hours of running). Now the program won't run at all. It also won't connect to the internet at all. And won't open add/remove programs, system tools, or system restore.
I have no problem with losing any information or documents, and just clearing everything out. But the issue is I don't have any of the discs I need to reinstall windows XP and such, nor do I have the money to purchase them.
I have no idea what's wrong, or what I should do.
Help?

Hi,

Please post your HJT log file so we can see if there is malware on your system.

1. Download TrentMicro HijackThis and save it onto your system.
2. Run the HijackThis application.
3. Press "Do a system scan and save a logfile".
4. Paste the content of that log file into your post.

Do you get any message when you try to enter add/remove programs, system tools, or system restore?
What can you enter?
Network connections?
Control Panel -> Administration?

Tranifer, seeing that you cannot get online, find someone with another PC and get them to download these programs onto a thumbdrive or CD and then install them on your PC.
1- Ccleaner Slim - install and remove all the excess infected cookies and junk.
2- Then Install Avast Free and allow it to do a bootscan on reboot and move ALL it finds to the chest.

Then you can use a small free utility called winsockfix and that will repair your internet connection.

The above are all found in the link of my signature on one page so it saves you googling for them.

You can also run run the other free progs listed in the signature if the virus has not been cleared out. Let us know how you make out.
There are still more methods if the above don't fix your problem. Post back and let us know, thanks

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
