computer will not boot at all

Specs: Windows XP Pro
Hello PC gurus,

I am afraid i have run into quite a problem with my desktop. After booting up my PC it would run fine for about 1 or 2 mins, before freezing up. after rebooting a few times to run into the same problem over and over again i decided to run AVG. When i opened AVG it i was not able to click the scan system button, it was shaded grey like i couldnt use it. i tried to do a system restore and i also tried to boot in safe mode to disinfect the system. After booting into safe mode i ran AVG from there. I let it run over night to scan the system. The next day i woke up to see my PC was off, and now that leads to the problem. When i push the power button on the PC, the thermo and HDD lights quickly flash and thats it. The system does not boot at all. Honestly i have no idea how to get the PC on so i can work on it and try to fix the problem.

Has anyone ever experience problems like this?

This is not a virus issue. It sounds like a CPU fan issue. Your computer will over heat and freez when this happens. If the fan fails completely then the computer will not turn on to prevent damage to your CPU. By leaving it on over night probably was the straw that broke the camels back and caused a complete failure of the fan or CPU. Replace the fan or take it to a repair shop.

Man that stinks, but at least it is an easy fix. The whole setup is about a year and a half old so that wouldnt have been my guess, but anything can go out at anytime i suppose. thanks for the help!!
