i start up my computer fine, but whenever i try to play a game that demands of my computer, it shuts down, not like a normal error though, where it says theres a problem with the power (by the way, im on a laptop), it doesnt give me any errors, my speakers spit out a little air-pop (best i can describe the sound) my computer freezes up for about 2 seconds, then everything just turns off. i just bought bet on soldier, and 4/5 times that i start up that game, my computer will shut down without even getting into the game. and even if it does get into the game, it will shut down soon eventually. now its pretty much every game i play that does that. its done it with the following games: bet on soldier, 1944 battle of the bulge, the sims 2, battlefield 2. and god knows what other games it would do it with that i havent played in a while. i think the only game i dont have problems playing is C&C zero hour. i can leave my computer running over night, and it wont shut down. i can browse the internet to my hearts content, and it wont shut down. i originally thought it had something to do with an external hardrive that i bought. i dont know how, but it seemed to have something to do with it, like whenever i would try to install and run a game from it. i beleive its 7600 rpms, and its 160 gb. now that i see this, im pretty sure its not.

ive scanned my computer for viruses and spyware, and scanning it again now, but it still does this, so im not so sure its spyware/viruses

im gonna try and open up my laptop and clean it out, that seems like the most logical solution.

this is my specs to the best of my knowlege:
3.60 GHz CPU/1022MB RAM
DirectX 9.0c
Windows XP Pro
ATI Mobility Radeon X600
Realtec AC97 Audio

thanks for any help in advance

It could be a problem with your ram. I had a problem with mine and it did the same thing, except mine would just randomly restart. Try taking out the ram and putting in some new ram. That might help. If you buy the ram, just make sure you return it if that isn't the problem.

I have the same exact problem as you, whenever I run cs, wc3 it just shuts down like it has no power. I can leave it on all the time and its fine or I can go on the internet or do w.e and its fine... I have p4 3.0 GHz 512 ram... it just started like 2 months ago but I’ve had the computer for like a year already. It shouldn’t be a virus or ad aware because I’ve tried that too. Basically I’m having the same exact problem as you. Tell me if you solve it/how. thx. =)

Keep the computer plugged into a Surge Protector.
