Comment:

I recently noticed that my computer freezes every time I choose search from the start menu. Task Manager says 100% memory in use. The only way out is to unplug the machine and restart it.

I bought Registry Fix to remedy this problem - it has not.

I have run virus scans in safe mode, (AVG) and no viruses are found.

Try using a spyware/adware scanner like Spybot Search & Destroy, SuperAntispyware or lavasoft adware(free programs). All can be found through Google. You may need to use a combination of them to remove all that they find.
