I have set up "silent" command line calls to McAfee for some home-users.

"<path>scan.exe /ADL /SILENT /Report <report output file>"

McAfee no longer includes the SCAN.exe program. I think they do include this for McAfee Enterprise, but not for home edition. My customer's programs no longer run in silent mode. It appears that McAfee is trying to wrapper everything in their security center html-like interface. I am trying to maintain a silent, hidden scan for people who are "scared" of seeing anti-virus s/w running.

Does anyone know (short of forcing everyone to downlaod scan.exe from the Mcafee Beta site) of a method to run VirusScan9.0 in hidden/background/silent mode? Are there command line options or are there some securiyt center options (unadvertised?) that will do this?
thanks Al

Found a way to do this.

It turns out that MCAfee VirusScan 9.0 uses the windows task scheduler. I found the exact commadn line, copied it to a bat file and voila!

"c:\program files\mcafee.com\vso\mcmnhdlr.exe" /runtask:0

task :0 = My_computer, this is OK for a home PC, but not so great ina corp environment, it will scan all <user> owner network folders.
