Check for Publisher's Certificate

Within "internet options" advanced tab, is it necessary to have a check mark for "check for publishers certificate revocation" under security?

What problems may occur if you remove the check mark?

Just for fun, I did some digging for what the heck is check for publishers certificate revocation. Below's what I found. BTW it's useful if you use Office XP
