I have a dual cd-drive setup. They both came standard with my Dimension 4600. I suspect that this is the result of a younger sibling, but one of the drives has ceased to respond at all. It will not even open. The other opens and spins a disk but will not read it. The latter that still opens is labled as the "main" cd drive and is the one that most programs default to. On a hunch I ran cd_open from RJL software. It read the following error message.

CD-ROM Drive = default
CD Command = open
Launch file =

I suspect that a virus may be the cause. Any input would be GREATLY apreciated as this is the computer that I need for school.

Open the computer up and check the cabling to the motherboard - the IDE cable
may be lose - I would first of all check all connections to the devices (power, IDE) - as this seems to be the root cause of your problem. Afterward if they are all ok you can try this registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from http://forum.aumha.org/

http://www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip

You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you do use.
See if this help ....
