Carpserv.exe found after modem installat

After installing modem with conexant chipset and reboot.I've found out that i have a program running named Carpservice which i do not have before.(I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and see the running programs). In my startup tab in msconfig, i found out an entry in the hkey\run carpserv.exe and also in the registry under my modem, this carpserv.exe is listed. What is it all about? Is it safe to delete? do i need to delete it?
