Comment:

I go to 'my computer' to 'msdos.sys' and open in notepad; I highlight the code for the aol.exe, delete it, and it wont let me do it. No matter how I try it is still there.

This is the remnants of aol after I removed it from the add/remove thing. I always get 2 pop ups telling me I need to remove it from my winini file. but It wont go away.
HELP !

Thanks EC for telling me to run in safe mode, but nevermind my request on how, I found this site telling how to run in safe mode.

Ok, here is what worked; and I got rid of the annoying P purity scan along with it.

Close all programs
Click Start / RUN ,and type 'msconfig' and click OK.
The SystemConfiguration Utility comes up, click on the 'Advanced' button.
In the Advanced Troubleshooting Setting dialogue box that comes up, click the little square box at 'Enable Start Up Menu'
click OK. and OK again in 'System Configuration Utility as it reappears.
And click YES to restart your computer.

Your computer will restart differently than normal.
Push your arrow down button to the 'Safe Mode' and Enter.

Now in safe mode, I went to start then run, then re-entered the msconfig, which is there automaticly now, because you typed it last.
Went back into system configuration utility, chose the 'Startup Tab', and unchecked
WINSERVS WINSERVS.exe which stops Purity Scan from running,
and unchecked run= C:\AMERIC~1.0\AOL.exe

and hit 'APPLY'

Then click 'Advanced' and uncheck 'EnableStartup Menu, and OK and OK again and 'YES' to restart your computer.

Now your computer will restart in normal mode without an Aol.exe error poping up
and without purity scan jumping in .

OH !If you havn't been to message 33 in the subject about Global finder.com Hijack; That message 33 has the link that does remove that global finder madness.

I love this place !
