✔ Best Answer
Check how you are doing it.

1: Boot computer & go into the bios.
2: Go to the Boot section & change the boot order to Boot from CD/DVD drive first.
3: Insert CD, press F10 ( Save and Exit )
4: During reboot, you will see a message > Press any key, do so.

Make sure when you reinstall, you delete ALL partitions & format to NTFS.
XP - D to Delete the selected partition

Here are some examples of why you delete all partitions.

What's the exact wording of the message saying you have a virus? As far as I know XP doesn't do a virus scan when doing an initial install. Maybe it's encountering a problem and is suggesting that a virus might be the reason.

You might want to post back specs of your computer. Does it have a SATA hard drive?

Since it originally had windows 7 you should check the support site for the system/motherboard to make sure they have XP drivers before making the change.
