I can open IE, but an error message immediately appears and says INTERNET EXPLORER HAS STOPPED WORKING A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program. (there is a link below: green arrow pointing to Close the Program. Could this be a virus, or ????? Thanks. Arline

May not be a virus, it may be malware/spyware or just a software incompatibility. Before this happened was ANYTHING downloaded or updated? One solution is system restore another is to disable some startup items in your system configuration menu of Vista.
Either way also do a spyware/adware scan after IE is up again.

Please post your HJT log file for me to inspect.
1. Download TrentMicro HijackThis and save it onto your system. 2. Run the HijackThis application. 3. Press "Do a system scan and save a logfile". 4. Paste the content of that log file into your post.
