can't open .exe w/o the choose a prog. box

June 27, 2010 at 17:46:47
Specs: Windows 08.07.2009
I have tried to open many things on my desktop and in my all programs thing on my computer. I think my computer has a lot of viruses and stuff but i don't have the money to invest in good virus protection. i just got avast and it took off some things, but now everytime i try to open something, the box that comes up says choose a program to run... with. and i don't know how to fix it or why it's happening.

awhsumblossoms, Right click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, under the General tab it should show you which version of Windows you are using.

awhsumblossoms, Turn off your computer and then turn it on and you should see a splash screen which shows the version of Windows installed.

awhsumblossoms, Try the following:

Click Start>Run then copy & paste or type in:

regsvr32 /i shell32

Click OK

Restart your computer

Note that the spacing is important.
