Can't login to programs, WORM_AB.AS

I have had this problem for a few days, programs such as Steam, AIM, Xfire, and even just trying to go to the gmail website wont go online. I did a virus scan with AVG and used Lavasoft's program and at first it found a virus called WORM_AB.AS. I removed it but I still have the problem. Also everytime I start my computer thw windows update yellow shield appears in the lower right hand corner for a few minutes. Anyone have any suggestions?
