Try it in safe mode. If that doesn't work, run msconfig and look at the startup tab for things that don't belong and uncheck anything that you don't need to load at boot time, which is almost all of it.
Click start, run, type cmd and press enter. At the command prompt type: chkdsk /r and press enter. It may tell you that you have to schedule check disk to run after reboot. Press y and enter. Then reboot.
