Can't get rid of temp file called hydrologist.exe

May 12, 2016 at 01:22:54
Specs: Windows
My computer got hit with some nasty stuff. This is the only one left; if i delete it, it comes back. It was causing an error to pop up error stating that nine.exe had stopped working but I was able to block that at least. I've run malwarebytes, spybot, avg, and avast and it's still there. It redirects every internet link to my homepage, no matter what browser I use.

Run these two small freebies, they are particularly focussed on browser malware:

AdwCleaner:
https://toolslib.net/downloads/view...
(blue "Download Now" button on right).
Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run the program. Use the "Scan" button, followed by the "Clean" button.

Junkware Removal Tool (JRT)
https://www.malwarebytes.org/junkwa...
(blue Download button).
Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run JRT. It might appear to have stopped at times or flash the screen but sit tight until it has finished.

Please copy/paste their logs on here so that we can see what they found.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

The problem is you're trying to remove it from within Windows. Boot off a linux disc, find the hydrologist file, right click & delete.

Download and burn to a DVD the ISO for Kaspersky Rescue disk. Boot with the DVD... It will load a Linux based OS into RAM only (the hard drive is merely a resource to this Linux based OS). It will then go online and update itself; after-which it will scan the system fully and deal anything it finds... Many pest hide within windows system files and thus are well nigh impossible to deal with whilst windows is booted up.

Re #2
If ADWCleaner finds it then it will ask you to restart and remove it on boot up.

Another option is this program:

I would still suggest you run the two programs already suggested in #1, in case there are other remnants.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
