I have win 98 and i ran norton corporate edition and it says i have the virus backdoor.oblivion in iexplore.exe. Its located in C:\windows\system. I can't delete this virus or the file. Can somebody please help me. Also what type of virus is this? Thanks alot!

What message, if any, do you get when you try to delete the file. Any thing like 'File not found' ?
This may be a case where the virus plays sneaky and uses a 1 (number one) to replace the l ( lower case L ) in iexp1ore (compare with iexplore, do you see the difference ? ).

Or is the file named iexpiore.exe ?
Information and removal help here...

hello
goto http://housecallantivirus.com
its a free online scan and it is the only one that will actualy remove what it findshave a nice day

I had the same problem w/ ME and it took me a good week to figure out how to get rid of the thing. I ended up creating a system boot disk, then typing in "DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\iexpiore.exe" If you want to do it this way, you will also have to disable the system restore function (though I am not sure if 98 has it), as the virus will most likely come back if you do not. The drawback is that this IS a system file that comes with Windows. After deleting it on my computer, I've received a warning message telling me Windows cannot find the file each time I startup. I tried writing some nonsense in notepad and saving it as "iexpiore.exe" but to no avail. Fortunately, the computer still computes fine, just with the annoying warning at startup. There are ways to clean this file, I believe, try searching Google.com for "iexpiore."

I have Norton antivirus. also have virus kleghwinks scan and defragmenter can't completejob. How do I get rid of it - simply!

have a virus or worm in my adess book keeps sending out a virus to the names in my adress book also different names apear sometimes i can't get in my computer locks me out have shut it off and restart it??

I do have norton anti virus and it has taken
care of the viruses but I cannot open up my
program files. It keeps coming up saying that
SirC32.exe: cannot be found and that is what
opens up my programs files or applications
can someone please help. I had the
w32.Sircan.worm virus

I also have Windows XP with the same backdoor.oblivion virus in iexpIore under my C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. I haven't deleted it yet because I haven't followed the complete instructions how to yet. You cannot delete iexpIore by yourself because it is a system file and always in use. Maybe you can delete it in safe mode, or download a clean version, I don't know, BUT the instructions on how to remove it can be found here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.oblivion.html
Good luck to anyone who tries to remove it! Also, does anyone know what the virus does? Symantec says it allows unauthorized access to our computer (via Internet, I'm guessing) so I guess, when we once got a program, it launched itself, and now someone is watching us??? Who knows...
