What to do???
My fully updated Norton Antivirus has found a virus called "Download.Trojan" in a compressed file "Maconnect.dll" at this location - C:\Documents and Settings\Jökull Steinthorsson\Lokala inställningar\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\UDBKT83A\MaConnect[1].cab ct.dll
According to Symantecs info this virus should be easily removed by the program, but in my case the program can´t quarantie or delete the file! I have been trying out different programs such as the newest version of Hijackthis and Adaware to see if this has something to do with the registry but that didnt work either. As it is I cant even try to do it manually because I cannot find the file in the explorer although Norton Antivirus has allready given the exact path to it.It seems that this compressed folder is off limit somehow. Even if I should be able to see hidden files and directories. Please help me out guys!

Someone correct me if iam wrong, but i think your virus is a web dialer MaConnect. Here is the link with instructions, and removal......
http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/library/webdialer/index.phtml

Yes Maconnect seems to be a dialer but that´s the file Norton Antivirus found the Virus in.I had actually allready come across the link you mentioned when I was searching for info on this web-dialer. In my case though this web-dialer is not found in the registry or in the webdialer directory which is supposed to be on the C: drive. So the problem still exists, webdialer or not, its the file that contains the Download.trojan virus.
But thx anyway :-)

Have you tried scanning with norton in safe mode?you scan in safe mode by taping the f8 after you restart your cpu.Have you tried spybot?

Yes I have tried scanning in safe mode severel of times without any luck. But I havent tried spybot yet. Perhaps I should.

Go to Tools/internet Options in IE.. Choose to remove your temporary files. Case Solved :)
Thanks & Regards
JR

If it only were that simple...
I have tried that many times. It seems that this function you are referring to has nothing to do with this specific folder the virus was found in.
The target folder is one of many that you cant really get to. It holds compressed material who registers all your internet activity. I cant even find it in the explorer but still its there! I still dont know what to do...becuse Norton Antivirus still finds the virus :-(

Delet it in DOS mode. If your OS is NTFS, do it in the Recovery Console.
If all ells fails, format and reinstall the OS.

I Had the same problem and solved this way:
Delete all suspected Email.
Run windows in safe mode using Msconfig.
Start DOS application in windows safe mode.
Type: c:\documents and settings\(your username)\local settings\temporary internet files\content ie5\GLKTA301 <press enter>
than type: del maconnect[1].cab <press enter>
close DOS application.Use MSconfig to run windows in normal mode.
(Using XP) make a new system recovery point (to prevent reintroduction of the trojan by recovery of a point before this action)
Scan the computer!!!
GOOD LUCK
FRED

Jokull,
So in your specific case the DOS command would be:
C:\Documents and Settings\Jökull Steinthorsson\Lokala inställningar\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\UDBKT83A <enter>
Than type: del MaConnect[1].cab <enter>Regards from the Netherlands,
Fred

YES!! I managed to delete the file in Dos mode. Now why didnt I think of that ;-)
But I guess all solutions are simple once you know the answer.Big thx for you help guys,
Best regards,
Jökull.
