I was running Norton antivirus 2003 on pc and it picked up a trojan horse that has infected a file called harddb.exe in the C://windows/addins folder. Norton can't quarantine or delete it. Every time I start my pc I get a message warning me of this infected file. i have tried to delete the file but I just get a message saying that I can't.

Try emptying your temperary internet files and off line content, then restart your computer and during the restart enter the safe mode(you usually tap or hold the K8 key down during the boot sequence). When the safe mode screen comes up, select administrator and then run your antivirus scan while in it. If the file is "protected" and the above step did not work, turn off system restore(My Computer>Restore) and restart the computer and then run the antivirus csna. After the system is clean you can turn system restore back on if you like using it. HTH
