Can't acess or I'm in Japan

December 9, 2013 at 22:53:59
Specs: Windows 7
I can't log into or http://www.ssa. I am in Japan. I've tried both Firefox and Explorer-no luck. I get a message that the server is taking too long to respond.

In the US I would type in the address in the address bar and it would go to the site. Now (in Japan) i type in the address and I get a search engine result with the site addresses listed but they time out or that they can't find the site.
Any ideas?

Try opening (not and put the address in their search bar. The search results should show the link which would connect through google when you click it.

It could be a security feature of their website, or it could be a website error.

I'm in Canada and I can access their website fine. My suggestion is report this to them by calling them at 1-800-772-1213 (number listed on their website).

I'm guessing you're trying to access something from them, so call them at that number and go from there.

Try removing the "www" in front of both site addresses.

I'm also in Japan and just finished trying for 2+ hours to get through to both and After removing the "www", all pages come up OK.

Odd that neither site would work with these common beginning letters, especially since the full address is advertised everywhere online. Could there be some technical reason specifically for people living outside the US?

Well, so much for that solution...

When removing the "www", many pages do come up, but many don't work at all because prefixes like "www" and "secure" are embedded in page links, such as their Retirement Estimator ( To actually run the estimator it goes to the link (with the "www"), so fails. Removing the "www" and reloading the page fails as well.

This site so far for me is just a lot of rubbish. There should be no reason at all such a site is made (consciously or not) technically inaccessible for Americans overseas.
