I have a couple of Yahoo email accounts. Since Thurs evening, I have not been able to access either one. Something happened and I can’t figure out what. I cannot access my email at all. After entering my username and password, and clicking on sign in, there seems to be a short communication between my computer and Yahoo and it says it is opening the page but then all communication from the yahoo servers seem to just stop and the browser just continues to idle endlessly. This is with both accounts. Yet, if I enter an invalid password, it immediately responds with an invalid password message. I am
noticing no other problems with my system or in accessing any other web pages. I have scanned for a virus with the anti-virus program (AVG) I have always been using and it comes up clean. The database is up to date. Oddly, I can't even set up new accounts as I get the same reaction by clicking on the “Sign Up” button—endless idle. At first I thought it was a problem with the yahoo servers but I tried from computers at the local library and there was no problem accessing my accounts at all. It appears to be something on my computer. I contacted Yahoo and they cannot see any problem on their end. They suggested I clean the cache and delete all cookies. (I am using IE 5.5 browser and have made no changes in it prior to this problem.) I cleaned the cache and moved the internet cookies to a different folder elsewhere. None of this helped. I’m out of ideas about what could be causing this? Anyone have any clue what the conflict could be. I would greatly appreciate any help with this.
Thanks in advance.
Wm

Thank you Dave,
How will I know if that is the case and could you tell me how to do this?
What happens? It becomes corrupted somehow? I will try your advice if you can tell me what to do.
Wm

To check you 128 bit encryption, do this:
with internet explorer open, click help, then "about internet explorer" and read what it says for cipher strength. It should say 128-bit.
If it does not say that, you can repair Internet Explorer, depending on which version you have the instructions might be different.
Post back what it says for cipher strength.

Suzi,
I checked and it does say Cipher strength: 128 bit followed by "(update information) link". I clicked that and it bought me to a Microsoft page, wherein it said:
"Note: ... If you are running Windows 2000, installing Internet Explorer 5.5 will not change the current level of encryption on your computer, you will need to install the Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack."
I am running Win2000 but never installed this before that I know of, and I never had this Yahoo problem until just recently.
There is something blocking my access to my email after the password submit button.
Any further ideas, let me know. Thanks

Maybe for the heck of it and as a double check, go in and set up another Yahoo name and email, etc. (delete the windows/cookies first and maybe even delete windows/temp) I do as such for different web page contact addresses to not get them mixed up with each other. Since Yahoo charges to forward between addresses now, I have 8 different accounts. But, see if it will do it and then try to access it after it is set up.
