Hi there

I'm a subscriber to McAfee and for some reason my computer can no longer access any McAfee websites or forums or download any updates to the virus protection programme.

I've had McAfee for a couple of years without any trouble - now re-evaulating as I can't seem to be able to access any help from the company to resolve this issue as they keep directing me to their tech assistance on their website, which of course I can't access!

I've scanned for conficker and the scans come up clear, however there is obviously still something not right. I can access other virus protection sites such as Symantec and have installed recommended Windows updates - the problem seems to be just the McAfee site.

Am not very experienced with these things so any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

Check and see if you can access any anti-virus website and make sure your current virus database includes Conficker and all the hybrids of it. As I think this is a symptom of virus infection with a virus of this nature (being unable to auto-update and reach any anti-virus websites). You should also check to see if your firewall has been turned off (even if you didn't turn it off). These viruses do this as well.

I cannot access the McAfee Web Site either. I don't believe this is a virus. I tried accessing McAfee at work on my computer there and had the same problem as on my home computer and received the same message. It says McAfee either "No longer Exists" or is "Unavailable at This Time."

McAfee on my home computer says to reinstall it so I can get needed updates. It shows my email and computer files unprotected now. Not being able to access the site I cannot reinstall McAfee.

Has McAfee done something new and changed the address of their Web Site? Or; are they temporarily down? I can't even find a phone no in order to call them.

WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MCAFEE ???

Try this:
1) Change your DNS server to http://www.opendns.com/start/.
2) Scan your PC with Kaspersky/BitDefender online scanner.
3) Scan with malware bytes.

Steps 3/4 Make sure you take screen shots/log of detected items. Still can't access write back.

Update! - The problem with my computer was not caused by a virus. What happened is that the other antivirus software which I have on my computer had blocked me from accessing the McAfee Web Site. I searched the files on that software; but couldn't determine which files needed to be reinstated.

So, I did this and it works and all is fine now. Try it and see if this works for you.

Do a system Restore to a date before you could not access the McAfee Web Site. (I went back a couple of months to be sure)

Once complete; try accessing the web site ~ If you can now access McAfee.com than the above is indeed what happened.

If you need to reinstall McAfee at this time due to it not working properly; go to this link to take you to where you can reinstall it. Just select the install feature and it will walk you though the rest.

Need to install or reinstall your service?

Need help installing?

I also ran a complete scan on my computer after reinstalling just to be sure. Nothing found..

Good luck "norbittneedshelp" and please post back here to let us know if this works for you or if you need further help.

Shandy
