I have two Win XPs in a LAN. Both were infected with Bugbear and Blaster. I've already fixed the problem using the update patch provided by microsoft and also removed the virus.
But the case is that the two pc's have CD-ROM drives that now don't work - used to work perfectly before being connected to the network. The windows explorer shows the driver's icon but when i click, it doesn't read the CDs. I've tried three diferent antivirus and there's no more virus. Could any of these virus have affected the CD-ROMs units?
Anyway, how can I fix the problem?

I have never heard of a virus harming a drive. I guess it could happen if it gave a faulty update to the drive firmware (but that is not what bugbear and blaster do). If that were the case, I do not think Windows would see the drive.
I would guess the drivers in windows have been corrupted. First, make sure you see the drives in the BIOS. If so, try removing the drive from the Windows device manager and restarting. Windows should reinstall the drivers. This assumes the .cab files have not been damaged.

Just a thought.....
Could you use SYSTEM RESTORE to the day before you got the first virus, when the drives work again, disable RESTORE, restart the PC and re-enable RESTORE.
This latter will flush the restore points and the virus that is/was stored there.
Unless you had to do this to clean up the infection in the first place.....A friend got a virus that damaged executables (.exe's). www.symantec.com will tell you what damage these two virii do.
You will have to get the patch again for MSblaster so the above may not work. Since I have typed it anyway........

"Can virus damage CD-ROMs"
No. I am not aware of any driver call that can damage a CD-ROM drive.
Your software is fairly complex and the problem almost certainly lies there. Start with replacing the driver and work out from there.
Otherwise if you have backups (or can make them), consider just restalling the entire setup. If you can easily restore it with a backup, this might actually save you time.
