can scanned exe files still be dangerous?

Specs: Windows 7, i3
I've just downloaded a game and I hadn't noticed it until now that it is just one file, an executable and I don't execute files I don't know. Anyway I scanned it with Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 and (windows 7) windows defender, neither detected a threat but I just want to be sure it's not a virus, spyware or malware. I don't really want to delete it until I know for sure that it's a threat. If anyone has ever installed a virus or any type of spyware from a file they've meticulously scanned could you please let me know as I'm keen to install this game asap. Thank you.

Kind regards,

If you downloaded it from a legitimate source then there won't be a problem as long as Kaspersky has said it's ok - incidentally Kaspersky has a 'sandbox' facility that you can run programs in which will give you a bit more peace of mind.
