Can no longer open e-mail attachments

Qualcomm / Eudora 7.1
September 19, 2010 at 21:48:48
Specs: Windows 7 Professional, Intel Core 2 Quad 9300, 2.5GH, and 4GB of DD3 ram
Cannot open attachments either from within the message or clicking on the file in the e-mail attachments folder. The attachments can be sent via any provider and (so far) have included DOC, RTF, and PDF files. Message appears on screen saying that file, as specified in the execution parameters, cannot be opened. Using "open with" and selecting alternate programs (such as WordPad in place of WordPerfect or Nuance PDF Reader in place of Adobe) does nothing. What is meant by the refusal notice? I've run system cleaners for virus, malware, and registry problems and came up OK. Have been able to use a clumsy workaround for text attachments via Conversions Plus, which apparently removes the attachment file from its e-mail connection and allows opening with any word processor. The attachment symbol in the e-mail Inbox now displays a padlock superimposed on it when all new e-mails are received.

What email provider are you using? Are you using Outlook or some other program to access it?

For some reason, although the program was asked to be identified as I prepared the query, that info apparently was not published. It's Eudora 7.1 which has worked OK even when I replaced Vista with Windows 7. This new attachment problem started about 10 days ago, which is four months since the re-installation.
