Can I save my netbook that has security virus

Specs: N/A
I have an hp mini 1011 netbook and it started with a popup that said my computer was infected and my sister immediately turned off the Internet and tried to save my computer like she did hers but it shut down before she could do anything and now when we try to turn it on it won't get past the opening hp screen after 6 seconds it turns to a black screen. Is my computer a lost cause?

No, it's not lost yet. Try F8 first. If you get to the boot menu, choose last known good config or safe mode. If they don't work, try F11 to get to the recovery partition.

Thanks for responding! I tried both keys but I don't get a response from either one, since it turned off I haven't gotten the option for safe mode or anything

Try some of the other F keys & the esc key. If you can get into the BIOS, reset it to defaults. If not, remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes.

I got into the BIOS settings but there is no option to reset it so I'm going to try and remove the battery now and see what happens
