Specs: Windows 7
Started with spybot then installed McAfee. Now also have avast; I am confused which one will work against the other. Help what do I uninstall?

You don't install 2 AV's.
There are some exceptions, your 2 are not one of those exceptions.

One has to go.

McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool

Avast Software Uninstall Utility

Following on from JohnW's comments re' - one has to go..

I'd opt to keep Avast (and the freebie version at that...).

Does what is says on the tin... is easy to update its definition (does it all for you).

I have invariably found McAfee a pain to update its definitions

I totally agree with trvlr, Avast free is MUCH better.

The reason that you don't generally want two AV's continuously running in the background at the same time is that one will check the other causing conflictions. In this instance you should not have McAfee and Avast installed and running together.

You can use any other malware or virus finder if it only works on demand. The free version of Spybot only runs when requested (unless it has changed since I last used it some years ago). Similarly it is OK to run programs like MalwareBytes free version or SuperAntiSpyware if you just want to check whether any malware has crept into the system.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
