Specs: Windows XP
my laptop will for no reason will go off of a/c and go to battery with no warning when i reset the plug it comes back on, but at times i see a shimmer on the screen and the power will change to battery sometimes i have to reinsert the power supply line 3 or 4 times before it stops messing with me .when this happens there is no warning unless i see the shimmer onscreen and the lap top is secure on the table not moving . thanks .

It sound more like a loose connection.
I would say no to a virus.

sounds like a failing power suppy.
Try running with the battery out and on AC power, see if it runs ok, then try with just using the battery and see which way works.

hi was just trying the laptop without the battery but all it did was shut down twice when i lost the power source .... on battery it works fine . seems to have a mind of its own which was why i was wondering if it was possible for a virus of sorts to have that kind of control to do that . or guess it could be a bad power supply but only seems to do it occasionally but when it does seems persistent ... for 1/ 2 hour or so like someone is messing with me ....

"trying the laptop without the battery but all it did was shut down twice when i lost the power source"
Doesn't that sound like a failing power supply to you? It sure does to me.

You didn't say the name and model number of your laptop so I guess you can check on e-bay and see how much the adapter is...really cheap anymore.
