I have a simliar program on my xp home edition os.The numbers are different.I can tell you that the bw stands for Back Web.Spybot detects it as "Back Web lite".It is the Back Web uninstaller.I have it in my "windows" folder.Do you have a Hewlett Packard or Compaq model?Back Web is also found in my H/P support or help folder.I understand that un-installing this will disable the H/P support sytem on my pc.I tried un-installing it and I get an error message saying that I dont have clearance or something like that.I called H/p and was told that they could give me assistance in removing it.Back Web comes pre-installed on H/P and Compaq computers.Regards.JB

ohh yeah! now I do know where it is from, thanx :-)

" Logitech® Desktop Messenger Version 1.2 "

I did a search at this forum to find similar about this subject, & look what I found..

hmm. In some other posting at this forum (-HERE-, in reply 5) someone says:
"..delete the trojan C:\WINDOWS\bwunin-6.1.0.153.exe with anti-trojan trojan hunter."

That makes Me confused, What futures does this "driverupdatetool" from
Logitech really do?? (Anyway because: I never got My drivers updated by
installing this new application!, so?) Does someone know more about this?
(The drivers I later had to download & install manually, but I think this is
what "Logitech® Desktop Messenger" is for and should have done !?)

Cause program didn't work: I un-installed it, but why did that not remove
the "bwUnin-6.1.4.36-8876480L.exe" from the "%windir%"-directory?

That rings a bell.Logitech has Back Web on some of the installation cd's.I know for a fact that some wireless Logitech mice have it.As far as it being a trojan...I look at it more as spyware.I have Trojan Hunter. It does find the "executable files with double extensions"(bwUnin....)But it doesn't ID it as a trojan.Spybot search and destroy will detect and remove it.There are reports of no side-effects after removal. But it also depends which BW version you are talking about.(there are many versions)Check out the spybot forum at www.net-integration.net.It is listed as SpybotS&D1.0.The author of Spybot is helpful and there was a thread about removing Back Web.Regards.JB

Ive been plagued by a load of pop up advertising on my pc recently....and had a feeling that it was incorporated in some codec pack that a "friend" installed on my PC... I had run the latest version of AdAware... nothing major there, just the usual ad cookies... but then just installed and run SpyBot 1.1

Loads and Loads of stuff about Back Web Lite everywhere.. a quick search on google and I end up at this page!

Did a search for bw*exe and found bwUnin.exe in my Kodak Picture Software updater... (an updated version i installed two days ago for my digital camera)...

Just thought Id let you know :)

On my XP machine backWeb-8876480.exe is the process running under my user id. I've read the readme.txt that Logitech packed with it and know all about the updates and fixes but don't have a clue what the software DOES. I'm uninstalling it now!

It sits on the C: drive as
c:\program files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\6.1.4.36-8876480L\program\... or similar.
